Our Functional Strength and Conditioning classes are designed to meet the goals of the general population. Higher strength levels, more lean muscle mass, less body fat, more explosive power, increased core stability, greater work capacity, healthier joints, less pain. These are outcomes widely desired by everyone, whether they workout or not. The movements we use are based on real-world situational biomechanics; squats, deadlifts, presses, pulls, swings, jumps, lunges, carries and numerous other exercise variations that are too numerous to list here. You will use barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, ropes, sleds, your own bodyweight, and many other tools to create the intensity needed to drive improvement. We will use methodology from powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, bodybuilding, gymnastics, and GPP training to provide a powerful training effect. The Bruce Lee quote, “Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless and add what is specifically your own” embodies our training program.
We are different from other gyms since we start you from where you are today. We don’t crush you during a workout; we have you work at a level that challenges you properly and fits your level of training ability. Whether you are a total beginner to the gym or an advanced athlete, you will receive a tremendous workout that matches your current ability and moves you forward.
Motivation and drive are always are the forefront of any exercise program. We take a “Motivation through Education” approach with our clients. Understanding the reasoning behind why we undertake the activities in our program will help to push the athlete through difficult moments and overcome obstacles. Learning functional anatomy breeds a deeper appreciation for building the body through repeated efforts and accelerates retention of training concepts. While we always strive to have fun in our training, we have high expectations for our clients to be engaged in the process and to take ownership of their lives and athletic development. We are not a gym for dilettantes.
Each class begins with a general warm-up to start preparing the body for the activities to come. We then move on to a movement preparation period which is focused on movements that lubricate joints, increase ranges of motion, and to excite the nervous system of the specific parts of the body being used in that session. Then we will begin the strength phase, where we will use proven training methodology and concepts to build strength, power, and lean muscle while also developing technical mastery of compound movements. The class finishes with a conditioning period, where we use the concept of high intensity interval training (H.I.I.T) and circuit training to build capacity in the various energy systems of the body. The result is a varying cardiovascular training session designed to help you reach your weight, performance and lean muscle targets.
